Cut your waste bill, reclaim value:
Welcome to Sustainable Infrastructure Consulting (SIC)
We help organisations turn sustainability goals into action. Led by Maarten de Beurs, an accomplished environmental scientist with over a decade of expertise in waste management and bioenergy, SIC delivers innovative, practical, and compliant solutions that drive both environmental and economic performance.
From strategic planning and regulatory approvals to waste-to-energy feasibility and circular-economy integration, we partner with councils, industry, and manufacturers to design infrastructure that’s future-ready.
Did you know industrial and manufacturing businesses across South-East Melbourne can save $10k– $30k/per year with an SIC waste-efficiency audit?

Industry Experience
Our team draws on extensive experience gained through previous work with both local government and private industry across Victoria. This background gives us a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, operational challenges, and opportunities within the waste and resource-recovery sector.
Past government collaborations include:
-
Boroondara City Council
-
Golden Plains Shire
-
Moorabool Shire
(Please note: SIC does not currently undertake council contracts.)
Private sector experience includes:
-
Major waste and recycling companies
-
Water authorities
-
Abattoirs and rendering facilities
-
Golf courses and sporting precincts
-
Manufacturing and processing industries
This breadth of experience enables SIC to deliver practical, evidence-based strategies that support commercial and industrial clients in achieving compliance, efficiency, and sustainability outcomes.
BioEnergy
What we do:
Feasibility studies for waste-to-energy (anaerobic digestion, gasification, biomethane, etc.), project design, procurement & approvals, performance optimisation of existing assets.
Why it matters:
Unlocks energy-value from residual streams, reduces waste disposal costs, generates renewable/low-carbon energy, helps meet environmental/regulatory obligations. Back up with evidence from Australian context (e.g., the role of bioenergy in Australia’s energy mix).
How we deliver:
Leveraging our founder Maarten’s track-record (pioneering AD facility), we bring hands-on engineering + approvals experience to deliver turn-key or advisory projects for industrial clients.

Circular Economy
What we do:
Develop circular-economy frameworks tailored for manufacturing/processing facilities (not just councils), identify resource-reuse loops, by-product valorisation, linkages across supply-chains and local networks.
Why it matters:
Moving from “take-make-dispose” to “reuse-cycle-recover” reduces waste-costs, creates new revenue streams, mitigates regulatory risk and aligns with evolving market/ESG expectations.
How we deliver:
We map your material flows, identify leakage/waste-value, embed commercial models (e.g., product feedstock reuse, symbiosis with nearby processors), and deliver implementation road-maps with measurable KPIs (tonnes diverted, $ saved, emission reductions). We are experts in pushing the boundaries through to implementation of circular economy solutions in a local context, providing real, on-the-ground change in your business, community or municipality.
Waste Strategy
What we do:
Develop robust waste-management strategies for industrial/manufacturing sites — audit of current wastes, procurement of waste services, optimisation of streams, integration of waste-to-energy and circular loops, approvals support.
Why it matters:
Many industrial clients are facing rising disposal costs, regulatory pressure (State/Territory waste policies), and missed opportunities in material value. A good strategy can reduce cost, risk and create value.
How we deliver:
Our free 20-minute Waste Health Check gives you a snapshot of your potential savings ($10k-$30k/year in SE Melbourne) and next-steps; from there we can lead or support full strategy development and roll-out.
